Wisconsin Stuns No. 8 Illinois in Overtime Upset

City, February 11: Wisconsin’s basketball team achieved a remarkable comeback, defeating No. 8 Illinois 92-90 in overtime at the State Farm Center. Despite trailing by 12 points in the second half, the Badgers rallied to secure their second road victory over a top 10 opponent this season and their first win in Champaign in seven years.

The game turned in Wisconsin’s favor after Austin Rapp hit a crucial three-pointer late in regulation, forcing the extra period. In overtime, the Badgers opened with an 11-3 run, establishing an eight-point lead, their largest of the game.

Illinois, led by Keaton Wagler with 34 points, attempted to respond but fell short. Zvonimir Ivisic contributed 19 points and 11 rebounds, but the Illini struggled with 13 turnovers compared to just four from Wisconsin.

This loss marks Illinois’ second consecutive defeat, dropping their record to 20-5 this season. They are currently second in the Big Ten standings, needing a win against Michigan later this month to boost their chances for the conference title.

Nick Boyd led Wisconsin with 25 points, while John Blackwell added 24 points and Rapp contributed 18 off the bench. With this victory, Wisconsin improved to 17-7, enhancing their NCAA tournament prospects as the regular season nears its conclusion.
