A Venezuelan national was arrested near the White House on Thursday evening after allegedly threatening to kill President Donald Trump. Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos was found with three firearms and ammunition in his vehicle, which was reported stolen.

According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), officers noticed Chrinos acting suspiciously in a car parked on Constitution Avenue. Upon confronting him, he claimed that voices in his head directed him to travel to Washington, D.C. to kill Trump. Officers discovered an AR-15-style rifle, a Mac 10, and a Glock 43X, along with dozens of rounds of ammunition.

Chrinos, who entered the U.S. illegally in March 2024, faces multiple charges, including unlawful possession and transportation of firearms, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and possession of stolen property. He is currently being held by the U.S. Marshals Service after an immigration detainer was lodged against him by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin commended the Secret Service for their swift action in detaining Chrinos, emphasizing that they prevented a potential threat. “Thanks to our brave Secret Service officers, this illegal alien with three firearms in his vehicle was arrested near the White House before he could harm anyone,” Mullin said.

Secret Service Director Sean Curran remarked that this incident shows the increasing risk faced by the agency, pointing to a rise in threats related to mental health issues occurring within the White House complex. Curran stated, “This incident reflects the heightened threat environment in which we operate and the continued number of armed individuals who are drawn to the White House complex.”

Chrinos appeared in D.C. Superior Court on Friday, where he was ordered to remain in custody without bond.
