Dehradun, March 16: The weather across Uttarakhand has taken yet another dramatic turn with intermittent rainfall sweeping through the state since Friday night. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for several districts, warning residents of ongoing rainfall, snowfall, and potential hailstorms until March 17, as a fresh Western Disturbance influences weather patterns.
IMD Issues Alert for Higher Altitudes
According to IMD Director Vikram Singh, higher-altitude regions above 3200 meters could experience fresh snowfall and isolated hailstorms in the next 48 hours. Districts including Uttarkashi, Tehri, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pauri, Bageshwar, Almora, Pithoragarh, Champawat, and Nainital have received specific alerts for thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and showers.
Residents and tourists in these areas have been advised to remain cautious and prepared, especially when travelling or participating in outdoor activities.
Plains Witness Rain, Hill Regions Turn Cold
The intermittent rains have impacted temperatures across the plains, causing a noticeable drop and bringing cooler weather back into the region. In hilly districts, the falling mercury has compelled residents to once again bring out their winter clothing.
The sudden weather shift has also led to disruptions in daily life, particularly in remote regions, with locals now bracing for extended periods of cold weather.

Weather experts anticipate the current Western Disturbance to remain active until at least March 17, maintaining the pattern of rainfall, snowfall, and gusty winds across the state.
