Vaishnavi Sharma’s Five-Wicket Haul Leads India to 3-0 ODI Series Sweep Over Zimbabwe
India achieved a 3-0 series sweep against Zimbabwe in the final ODI, powered by Vaishnavi Sharma's five wickets and strong batting performances.

VADODARA, Oct 28: India wrapped up a dominant 3-0 sweep over Zimbabwe in the ODI series, winning the third match by eight wickets. The final match took place at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara.
Vaishnavi Sharma starred for India, claiming her first five-wicket haul in ODIs with figures of 5 for 39. Zimbabwe, opting to bat, was bowled out for 131 runs in 39.5 overs. Modester Mupachikwa was the top scorer for Zimbabwe, contributing 37 runs.
With the chase set at 132, India responded quickly. Pratika Rawal, unbeaten on 59 off 56 balls, and Shafali Verma, who scored 51 not out off just 26 deliveries, led the team home in 17 overs. This decisive win completed a series where India also triumphed in the preceding T20Is.
Zimbabwe’s batting faltered against India’s disciplined bowling. Early wickets fell quickly, leading to a precarious position. Sayali Satghare dismissed Loryn Phiri for a duck, while Kranti Gaud took out Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano shortly after. The Zimbabwean team struggled to build partnerships, with only Mupachikwa and Josephine Nkomo making contributions.
Vaishnavi’s exceptional bowling began in the 10th over, and she quickly dismantled the Zimbabwe batting lineup. She captured key wickets, including Mupachikwa and the dangerous Dhururu, helping reduce Zimbabwe to 52 for 4.
Despite an initial setback where opener Yastika fell for a duck, Rawal and Verma ensured a stable innings. Their aggressive batting saw them score freely, with Verma achieving her half-century in just 24 balls, marking one of the fastest fifties by an Indian woman in ODIs.
Rawal’s performance stood out throughout the series; she accumulated 220 runs, becoming the leading run-scorer. She noted, “It’s basically an adaptation of that game, adaptation of my batting.” Verma, meanwhile, displayed her explosive skills, complementing Rawal’s steadiness.
This series concluded with India taking home six points in the ICC Women’s Championship cycle, moving them to 7th place in the standings, while Zimbabwe remains at 10th.
