Fresh Snowfall Forces Temporary Closure of Mughal Road as Precautionary Measure

Poonch, May 31: Following fresh snowfall on Saturday, authorities have temporarily closed the Mughal Road — a key route connecting Shopian in Kashmir Valley with Rajouri and Poonch districts in Jammu division.

According to Mahruf Ahmad, Station Officer, Mughal Road Traffic Police, the closure has been enforced purely as a precautionary measure due to the slippery and dangerous road conditions caused by the fresh snow accumulation.

He further advised travelers and commuters to avoid using the Mughal Road until weather and road conditions improve.

“Travelers are urged to wait for official clearance before resuming movement on this route,” he said.

The Mughal Road is known for its scenic beauty but also remains vulnerable to weather-related disruptions, especially during snow events at higher altitudes like Pir Ki Gali. Officials are continuously monitoring the situation and will reopen the road once it is deemed safe for vehicular movement.
