Apple has announced new models of its 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac, both equipped with the advanced M6 chip, enhancing performance for AI-related tasks. The MacBook Pro is priced starting at $1,999, while the iMac begins at $1,499. Pre-orders for the devices will open on Wednesday across 35 countries, with availability set for November 6.

The M6 MacBook Pro delivers graphics up to 30% faster and AI performance up to 25% better than its M5 predecessor. It offers a remarkable battery life of up to 24 hours, the longest ever recorded in a Mac device. The iMac features an even more significant boost, with up to 5 times faster on-device AI performance compared to the previous M4 model.

According to Apple, the 14-inch MacBook Pro is designed for a range of users, including students, business professionals, and creatives. “With the powerful M6 chip, we’re taking performance to the next level,” said Shelly Goldberg, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering.

The M6 chip features a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, significantly improving productivity tasks and workflows. The Dual 16-core Neural Engine accelerates AI workloads and enhances user privacy while processing AI tasks locally.

Upcoming Touchscreen MacBook

Apple is anticipated to unveil its first touchscreen MacBook Pro during its “Pro and Tell” event in Los Angeles on October 28. This move represents a shift for Apple, which has traditionally resisted touchscreen laptops. The new models may also feature OLED displays, making them more competitive in the market.

As the line between laptops and tablets continues to blur, the touchscreen could offer convenience for certain tasks, especially for creative professionals. Apple has a history of separating its products based on their primary functions, but this change could signal a new direction for MacBook design.

Reports suggest that the new MacBook Pro will retain its keyboard and trackpad while enhancing the macOS interface to accommodate touch controls. This could allow users to switch between touch and traditional input methods based on the task at hand.
