Udaipur Municipal Corporation Seizes Over 4 Quintals of Banned Plastic Bags
Udaipur, May 13: The Udaipur Municipal Corporation has taken significant action by seizing over 4 quintals of single-use banned plastic bags. Municipal Commissioner Abhishek Khanna stated that the state government has imposed a ban on the storage, sale, and use of single-use plastic carry bags. In response to the increasing use of plastic carry bags in Udaipur, the corporation conducted surprise inspections and will enforce strict measures against the banned plastic.
In this operation, Municipal Police Inspector Mangilal Dangi and his team arrived at a warehouse for minor and forest produce at the Agricultural Produce Market, where they found Dinesh Jain present. A search of the warehouse located on the first floor of shop number 9A revealed various colored carry bags containing the banned plastic. A total of 21 bags of single-use plastic carry bags weighing 4 quintals and 68 kilograms were seized.
Commissioner Khanna emphasized that the manufacture, use, purchase, sale, possession, and transportation of banned plastic carry bags is a punishable offense under Section 15 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986. He noted that the municipal corporation had previously conducted large-scale raids against banned plastic, which had effectively halted its sale in the city. However, following a pause in enforcement actions, some individuals resumed the business of single-use plastic. Upon receiving this information, the corporation swiftly carried out the necessary actions.
