Manoj Bajpayees Film Renamed to Gajab Raat, Set for Netflix Release on October 23

Manoj Bajpayees film, formerly titled Ghooskhore Pandit, has been renamed Gajab Raat and will release on Netflix on October 23.

Mumbai, October 15 (Udaipur Kiran) : Actor Manoj Bajpayee’s upcoming film has undergone a title change from ‘Ghooskhore Pandit’ to ‘Gajab Raat’. The original title sparked controversy, leading to legal scrutiny that reached the Supreme Court. The suspense thriller is now scheduled for release on Netflix on October 23.

In ‘Gajab Raat’, Bajpayee plays a police officer torn between personal gain and doing the right thing. He expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “My journey with Netflix has been wonderful, and ‘Gajab Raat’ is another special project in that collaboration. I am always drawn to characters that cannot be easily categorized as right or wrong. This film allowed me to work in a unique world filled with suspense, moral dilemmas, and questions of accountability.”

Bajpayee highlighted that as the night unfolds in the story, the characters’ true intentions gradually come to light. He also noted that reuniting with filmmaker Neeraj Pandey after a long time was a fantastic experience, and he found it interesting to see Ritesh Shah transition from writer to director. “Audiences will have a lot to discover and understand in ‘Gajab Raat’,” he added.

The film is produced by Neeraj Pandey’s Friday Filmworks and directed by Ritesh Shah. Besides Bajpayee, the cast includes Sakib Saleem, Akshay Oberoi, Divya Dutta, Kiku Sharda, and Nusrat Bharucha in significant roles.

Neeraj Pandey remarked, “For me, a good story is not just about making the audience wonder what happens next; it should also provoke thought after viewing. In ‘Gajab Raat’, the characters are pushed into situations where there are no easy answers. The moral dilemmas faced by the characters propel the narrative forward through events occurring in just one night.”

Director Ritesh Shah added, “I enjoy thrillers that engage the audience from the outset and keep them guessing at every turn. Advancing the story within a single night creates a sense of tension and urgency.”

Initially titled ‘Ghooskhore Pandit’, the film faced objections following the release of its teaser on February 3, prompting the Supreme Court to intervene. On February 12, the court raised concerns about the title, stating that freedom of expression should not be used to demean any section of society. The film has now been successfully retitled ‘Gajab Raat’ and will premiere on Netflix on October 23.
