Washington, March 1: President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has died. He stated that U.S. bombings would continue throughout the week or as long as necessary.
In a statement, Trump described Khamenei as “one of the worst people in history,” asserting that his death represents “justice for the people of Iran.” He added that it is also justice for all American citizens and many others worldwide who have been killed or injured due to Khamenei and his associates.
Trump emphasized that Khamenei could not escape the reach of “our intelligence and very advanced tracking systems.” He mentioned that the U.S. collaborated with Israel in this operation, and Khamenei, along with other leaders killed, could do nothing in response.
He referred to this situation as “the greatest opportunity” for the Iranian people to reclaim their country. Trump noted that many members of Iran’s IRGC, military, and other security forces no longer wish to fight and are seeking guarantees of safety from the U.S. He warned that while they might receive security now, they would ultimately face death later.
The President expressed hope that the IRGC and police forces would work peacefully with patriotic Iranians to rebuild the nation. He claimed that Khamenei’s death has also inflicted significant damage on Iran on the same day.
Trump stated that precise and heavy bombings would continue until the goal of establishing peace is achieved, asserting that this step was taken to bring peace to the entire Middle East and the world.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt mentioned on X that “President Trump monitored the situation overnight with members of his National Security team at Mar-a-Lago.” She added that the President spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu over the phone. Levitt further noted that prior to the attacks, Marco Rubio had called all members of the eight-person gang to provide congressional notification, successfully reaching seven of them.
She confirmed that the President and his National Security team would closely monitor the situation throughout the day.
U.S. officials told reporters that the President believes diplomacy is no longer an effective option, citing intelligence reports indicating a serious threat from Iran’s missile capabilities and nuclear program.
Following this announcement, tensions have escalated between Washington and Tehran. The U.S. and Iran have been at odds for decades over Tehran’s nuclear program, regional proxies, and ballistic missile development.
