True Dedication and Selfless Service Make a Person Great: Prashant Agrawal

Prashant Agrawal

Udaipur, October 18: Prashant Agrawal, president of Narayan Seva Sansthan, highlighted the glory of Goddess Mahagauri during a Devi Bhagwat Katha, delivering a message of devotion, compassion and humanity to devotees. Through the stories of Goddess Mahagauri’s penance, a lion’s devotion and the inspiring account of Apala, the daughter of a sage, he explained the importance of selfless service.

Goddess Mahagauri’s Penance and the Lion’s Devotion

Agrawal narrated the story of Goddess Parvati, who resolved to undertake severe penance after Lord Shiva jokingly referred to her as Kali. She began her spiritual practice in a cave in the Himalayas.

During this period, a hungry lion arrived at the cave intending to hunt her. However, deeply influenced by her spiritual devotion, the lion stayed there. Days, months and years passed, but it neither disturbed her penance nor caused her any harm.

When the Goddess completed her penance, she was pleased by the lion’s dedication and made it her vehicle. This is why she is also known as Singhvahini, the Goddess who rides a lion.

The Inspiring Story of Sage’s Daughter Apala

Referring to the story of Apala described in the Rigveda, Agrawal explained that she faced neglect from society and her husband because of a skin condition. However, her father, Maharishi Atri, welcomed her with affection and care.

When Apala received an opportunity to seek a boon from Lord Indra, she first prayed for her father’s good health and prosperity for his fields rather than asking for herself.

Agrawal emphasised that a person’s worth should not be judged by their complexion, physical appearance, illness or disability. Instead, people should be valued for their compassion, virtues and humane behaviour.

Mahapujan of 501 Girls with Disabilities on Monday

Agrawal announced that a Mahapujan of 501 girls with disabilities would be held at 10 am on Monday at Narayan Seva Sansthan’s World of Humanity campus.

During Sharadiya Navratri, the institution continues its tradition of service and dedication by supporting girls with disabilities through surgical treatment, rehabilitation and initiatives that uphold their dignity and respect.

The initiative reflects the belief that service is not merely a religious ritual but also a commitment to compassion, dignity and respect for humanity.
