Thousands Attend Grand Bhasma Aarti at Mahakal Temple

Ujjain, June 27: The grand Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal was held at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple on the occasion of Jyestha Shukla Paksha Trayodashi. A large number of devotees gathered at the temple complex to witness this divine spectacle. Devotees queued up from late night to have a glimpse of Baba Mahakal.

Early Saturday morning, after seeking the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra, the doors of Baba Mahakal were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. As the devotees were granted darshan following the divine adornment and Bhasma Aarti, the entire temple complex resonated with the chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras.

With the opening of the temple doors, the water abhishek of Lord Mahakal was performed amidst chanting, using Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, sugar, and fruit juices. Baba Mahakal was adorned with a silver crown and Rudraksha mala, presenting a royal appearance.

The temple priest conducted the Maha Aarti, attended by a significant number of devotees who had lined up since the previous night to witness the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal.

Traditionally, ashes from the cremation ground were offered to Mahakal, but now, special Bhasma made from cow dung of the Kapila cow and medicinal herbs is used. During the Bhasma Aarti, it is mandatory for men to wear traditional dhoti-sola and women to wear sarees.

The Aarti of Baba Mahakal is famous across the country and abroad, attracting both common people and prominent personalities. A large number of police personnel are deployed around the temple to maintain order during this time.
