State Government Appeals Against Cancellation of SI Recruitment

Jaipur, 17 November (Udaipur Kiran). Nearly two and a half months after the Rajasthan High Court’s single bench cancelled the Police Sub-Inspector Recruitment 2021, the state government has now filed an appeal before the division bench challenging the order.

Rajasthan High Court

The government argued that the entire recruitment process cannot be scrapped due to the wrongdoing of a few individuals. It stated that the leaked question paper from one exam centre had reached only a limited number of candidates. The paper allegedly leaked through RPSC members also reached only their children and certain middlemen, and was not circulated across the state.

The appeal further said that cancelling the entire recruitment is adversely affecting innocent candidates. If investigating agencies are able to identify guilty and non-guilty candidates, then the law does not permit the complete annulment of the recruitment process.

Notably, the single bench of the Rajasthan High Court had on 28 August directed the state government and the RPSC to cancel the recruitment. Against this order, some selected candidates filed an appeal before the division bench. On 8 September, the division bench stayed the single bench’s order.

Later, Kailash Chandra Sharma and others—who were petitioners before the single bench—challenged the division bench’s stay order in the Supreme Court. On 24 September, the Supreme Court ordered status quo and directed that the matter be decided within three months. The division bench is scheduled to hear the appeal on 24 November.
