Ahmedabad, April 28 (Udaipur Kiran) – Construction of a high-tech bridge over the Sabarmati river under the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is progressing rapidly, with major structural work already completed.
The bridge, located strategically between the Sabarmati and Ahmedabad bullet train stations, is approximately 480 metres long and about 36 metres high, comparable to a 12-storey building. All eight massive circular piers have been completed, each measuring 6 to 6.5 metres in diameter and standing between 31 and 34 metres tall.
The structure consists of a total of seven spans, including five spans of 76 metres each and two spans of 50 metres. Each span is being constructed using 23 segments assembled on-site.
Engineers are using the advanced balanced cantilever technique, which is considered suitable for bridges over deep water and long spans. This method involves adding segments from both sides of the piers without external support, maintaining structural balance during construction.
So far, foundation and substructure work has been completed, while three of the 76-metre spans are already in place.
Ashwini Vaishnaw said on social media that the bridge is taking shape at a fast pace.
