
Udaipur : Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, commonly known as PCOS, is a serious health condition affecting women. According to the WHO, an estimated 8-13% of women of reproductive age worldwide are affected by PCOS. To raise awareness about this issue, every September is observed as PCOS Awareness Month. In line with this, a seminar was organized today at Government Girls College, Mira, under the aegis of the Postgraduate Zoology Association.
The keynote speakers, Dr. K.R. Sharma, Andrologist and Professor Emeritus, Pacific Medical College, Bedla and Dr. Akansha Sharma, Ayurvedic Physician, informed the students about the purpose of celebrating PCOS Awareness Month and encouraged them to be aware of this problem and adopt a positive lifestyle. Seminar coordinator Dr. Kanan Saxena, while introducing the topic, said that after interacting with the students, it was found that many of them were suffering from PCOS, hence this seminar was organized. 135 students, research scholars and faculty members of the college participated in this seminar. Principal Dr. Deepak Maheshwari expressed his views on the topic and said that this seminar will increase awareness among the students.
In the first technical session, Dr. K.R. Sharma explained the physical problems caused by the deficiency and excess of reproductive hormones in the body and answered the queries of the students. In the second technical session, Dr. Akansha Sharma, highlighting the importance of Ayurveda, said that the purpose of PCOS Awareness Month is to help improve the lives of people affected by PCOS and to prevent and reduce the risk of diseases like diabetes, heart disease, fatty liver disease and cancer along with relieving their symptoms. Dr. Akansha gave information about the measures to control PCOS by telling about diet and lifestyle and the importance of Vata, Pitta and Kapha in the body. The seminar was organized under the guidance of Dr. Minakshi Mahur, the seminar organizing secretary.
