Jaipur, May 24 – In a fresh crackdown on grassroots-level corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team from Hanumangarh on Saturday arrested Ganesharam Godara, Sarpanch of Mokalsar Gram Panchayat, located under Suratgarh Panchayat Samiti in Sri Ganganagar district. He was caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 in exchange for approving funds under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Bribe Demanded to Approve Housing Scheme Benefit
According to Dr. Ravi Prakash Meharda, Director General of Police (DGP), ACB Rajasthan, the accused Sarpanch had initially demanded a bribe of ₹12,000 from the complainant. The bribe was allegedly sought for clearing PMAY benefits in the name of the complainant’s father.
Following verification of the complaint, a trap was laid under the supervision of ACB Hanumangarh’s Additional SP Sudha Palawat, leading to the arrest of Ganesharam Godara while accepting ₹10,000 in cash.
Legal Action Underway
The ACB has initiated proceedings against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is underway to determine if other officials or beneficiaries were also targeted by similar demands.
Zero Tolerance for Rural-Level Corruption
This incident highlights the continued misuse of welfare schemes at the panchayat level, where beneficiaries are often coerced into paying bribes for schemes meant to uplift the underprivileged. The ACB reiterated its commitment to root out corruption from governance at all levels, including rural administration.
