Sanju Samson Traded to CSK, Ravindra Jadeja Returns to Rajasthan Royals

New Delhi, 15 November (Udaipur Kiran). Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have made one of the biggest trades in IPL history, bringing in Sanju Samson for ₹18 crore, while Ravindra Jadeja has moved back to Rajasthan Royals (RR) for ₹14 crore. The move comes after two underwhelming seasons in which the five-time champions failed to reach the playoffs and struggled with an ageing middle order, limited hitting power, and a shrinking spin unit.

 Ravindra Jadeja

Samson’s arrival is expected to address several batting concerns for CSK. His record speaks for itself—4027 runs for Rajasthan across 11 seasons, leading the team to the 2022 final, and scoring a career-best 531 runs in 2024. His request for a release after IPL 2025 made the trade inevitable, and CSK, searching for the right balance in the post-Dhoni era, emerged as the natural destination.

Letting go of Jadeja, however, creates a major challenge for CSK. Their spin-heavy strategy has defined the team for a decade, with Jadeja at its core—143 wickets, three titles, and his iconic match-winning act in the 2023 final. Despite having replacements like Noor Ahmad and Shreyas Gopal, filling Jadeja’s role will not be easy. CSK will now look for an Indian spin all-rounder at the mini-auction, a category with very limited options.

For Rajasthan, Jadeja’s return is both emotional and strategic. Their late-season collapse in IPL 2025 and Samson’s injury highlighted gaps in experience and balance. Jadeja brings both—along with leadership depth and control in the death overs.

This blockbuster trade has reshaped the direction of both teams ahead of IPL 2026.
