Jaipur | May 22, 2025: Rajasthan continues to reel under an intense heatwave, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red alert for four districts—Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, and Churu—on Thursday. Additionally, an orange alert has been sounded for Jhunjhunu, Nagaur, and Jodhpur.

Amid this extreme weather, a tragic incident occurred in Dholpur, where a woman lost her life after being trapped under a tree that fell during a dust storm on Wednesday night.
Heatwave Turns Deadly in Dholpur
A powerful storm swept through Baretha Khurd village in Dholpur district late Wednesday night. In a tragic turn, a tree collapsed, fatally injuring Rajkumari (36), wife of Ramnath Thakur. The victim was crushed beneath the fallen tree and died on the spot. The storm also caused extensive damage to electric poles, disrupting power in multiple parts of the district.
A photograph from the village shows grieving family members gathered near the deceased, highlighting the human toll of Rajasthan’s worsening weather crisis.
Storms Hit Jaipur’s Outskirts
In Chomu, a town near Jaipur, strong winds blew late at night, triggering local chaos. Storefront curtains reportedly came into contact with power lines, causing a loud short circuit explosion that startled residents.
Extreme Heat in Northern Rajasthan
Rajasthan has been gripped by record-breaking temperatures, with Sri Ganganagar emerging as the hottest city in India on Wednesday at 47.6°C. Other high scorers include:
-
Pilani: 47.2°C
-
Churu: 46.8°C
-
Bikaner: 46.3°C
Due to the oppressive conditions, many cities witnessed near-deserted streets in the afternoon, resembling an unofficial curfew. Local administrations in northern and eastern parts of the state organized water spraying operations to cool urban streets.
Weather Relief Expected from May 25
According to weather experts, relief from the blistering heat is likely from May 25 onwards, coinciding with the onset of Nautapa, the traditional 9-day heat period that often precedes monsoon activity. A cyclonic circulation is forming over the Arabian Sea near Goa, which could evolve into a low-pressure system.
This system is forecast to travel northwest, impacting parts of:
-
Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Haryana
Between May 25 and 30, the system is expected to bring dust storms, lightning, and scattered rainfall, offering much-needed respite to heat-stricken regions of Rajasthan.
