May 22, 2025 | National Desk: In a shocking case of matrimonial fraud, a woman from Maharajganj district, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested for allegedly marrying 25 men within seven months and looting them shortly after each wedding. The woman, along with her husband, formed a gang that used online marriage apps to trap unsuspecting men across Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
The woman was finally apprehended by Rajasthan Police from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, after a well-coordinated sting operation.

The Modus Operandi: Love, Marriage, Loot
According to local reports, the accused woman hails from the Kolhui police station area in Maharajganj. She had earlier eloped and married a man from Nautanwa in 2018. After being ostracized by her in-laws, the couple began living in a vacant house nearby. In 2021, they allegedly disappeared with their son, leaving behind their daughter, and soon re-emerged in Bhopal with a new scheme.
There, the couple created a gang of six members. They launched fake marriage profiles on matchmaking apps and started targeting unmarried men seeking brides. Once a man agreed to marry, the woman would go through the wedding (often with fake agreements and ceremonies) and vanish within three or four days, taking with her cash, gold jewelry, and other valuables.
Rajasthan Police’s Sting Operation Uncovers the Truth
The case came to light when a resident of Mann Town, Rajasthan, filed a complaint on May 3. Vishnu Sharma alleged that an acquaintance in Khandwa had introduced him to a woman for marriage, showing him her photos and arranging the wedding in Sawai Madhopur court. After the marriage, the woman stayed with Sharma for just three days before fleeing with cash, ornaments, and a mobile phone.
Following the complaint, Rajasthan Police launched an undercover operation. An officer posed as a prospective groom and contacted the gang through the same network. Using local informants in Bhopal, they traced the accused and raided the hideout, successfully arresting the woman.
Shock and Public Reaction
Locals in the Kolhui region and netizens alike have been stunned by the scale of the fraud. The idea of 25 marriages in just seven months, carried out with precision, has sparked discussions on the loopholes in digital matrimony platforms, lack of verification, and the increasing use of fake marriage as a tool for organized crime.
So far, Maharajganj Police have not issued an official statement, but the arrest has become the talk of the region, with several potential victims now expected to come forward.
