Rain Brings Relief from Heat in Rajasthan: Jaipur Sees 6.8°C Drop, Storm Alert for 29 Districts

Jaipur, June 4 — The arrival of a fresh western disturbance has significantly altered the weather across Rajasthan, bringing much-needed relief from the intense summer heat. On Tuesday and Wednesday, intermittent rain and thunderstorms were reported across several parts of the state, resulting in a sharp drop in temperatures and a much-needed respite from heatwaves.

Rajasthan weather alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 29 districts, excluding Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Barmer, and Jalore, warning of possible rain and thunderstorms with gusty winds over the next three days.

Jaipur Sees Temperature Plunge to 30.4°C

In the state capital Jaipur, temperatures fell by 6.8°C due to light, scattered rainfall throughout the day. The maximum temperature was recorded at 30.4°C, significantly below seasonal averages. Cool winds in the morning and evening added a winter-like chill to the air, prompting residents to reach for light woollens.

Other cities including Ajmer, Churu, Alwar, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu also recorded maximum temperatures below 35°C. Sikar emerged as the coldest among them with a maximum of just 29°C, making it the coolest day of the pre-monsoon season.

Heavy Rains Cause Urban Flooding and Damage

The sudden showers caused urban flooding in parts of Sikar. Waterlogging was reported at Radha Kishanpura railway underpass, cutting off direct access to parts of the city. Nawalgarh Road was submerged under nearly a foot of water, bringing traffic to a standstill.

In Bikaner’s Lunkaransar area, a house collapsed due to heavy rainfall, leaving a young girl trapped under debris. Emergency services rushed to the spot for rescue operations.

Weather Impact Across the State

According to IMD, cloudy skies and light rain were observed in cities including Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Jhunjhunu, Churu, Jaipur, Sikar, Bharatpur, and Kota. In some areas of Ganganagar, hailstorms were also reported. The overall atmosphere turned notably cooler, with daytime temperatures resembling late evening conditions.

On the other hand, Western Rajasthan districts such as Jaisalmer, Barmer, Jodhpur, and Phalodi remained dry and sunny. These regions continued to experience high heat levels, with Jaisalmer recording the highest temperature in the state at 41.6°C, followed by Barmer (40.8°C), Phalodi (39.8°C), and Jodhpur (39.3°C).

Weather to Remain Unstable for Next Three Days

Meteorologists predict that the unstable weather will persist for another 72 hours. Rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue intermittently, especially in eastern and central Rajasthan. Cooler temperatures are likely to prevail in most districts under the influence of active western disturbances.
