Google is rolling out a Personal Safety update for the Pixel Watch, adding an Emergency SOS confirmation step to prevent accidental emergency calls. This enhancement refines the existing SOS activation method, ensuring users have an extra layer of control during emergency situations.

What’s Changing in Emergency SOS on Pixel Watch?
Previously, pressing the digital crown five times would automatically call 911 (or a designated emergency contact) after a 5-second countdown. An alarm sound served as an audible confirmation of the activation.
New Confirmation Step:
✔ Now, after pressing the crown 5 times, a UI prompt appears, instructing users to “hold your screen for 3 seconds” to confirm the emergency call.
✔ If no action is taken, the screen will automatically close after 20 seconds, preventing accidental SOS activations.
Why This Matters
This update addresses concerns about unintentional emergency calls, providing a balance between quick access to help and reducing false alarms. It aligns with Google’s broader safety enhancements across Pixel devices, reinforcing user security and reliability.
The update is rolling out now and should be available to all Pixel Watch users in the coming days. Stay updated by checking for software updates via the Google Play Store on your watch. ⌚🚀
