Parents of Ankita Bhandari Demand Justice at India Gate

Ankita Bhandaris parents protest at India Gate, seeking justice as Rahul Gandhi offers support amidst ongoing political tensions.

New Delhi, October 14 (Udaipur Kiran) : Ankita Bhandari’s parents staged a protest near India Gate in New Delhi on Wednesday, seeking justice for their daughter, who was murdered in a high-profile case in Uttarakhand. Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, visited them to express solidarity and assured them of support in their fight for justice.

Gandhi took to social media platform X, stating, “The Bhandari family has not received justice for four years, while a ‘VIP’ accused has been granted protection and rewarded with a constitutional position. In a system where rapists and murderers are welcomed with garlands, there is little hope from the anti-women BJP. Today, Ankita’s parents sit miles away from home at India Gate, pleading for justice. The Congress party stands with them in their grief and in this fight for justice.”

In response to the protest and allegations made by Gandhi, the Pushkar Singh Dhami government defended its actions, emphasizing that securing life imprisonment for the guilty showcases their commitment to addressing the case seriously from the outset.

A statement from the Uttarakhand government explained that the accused were swiftly sent to jail within 24 hours, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to ensure a thorough and impartial inquiry. The investigation led to an extensive charge sheet of nearly 500 pages, including crucial evidence and testimonies from around 100 witnesses. The prosecution’s strong arguments resulted in repeated rejections of bail applications for the accused, who remained in custody throughout the trial. Ultimately, they were sentenced to life imprisonment for Ankita’s murder.

The government reiterated that throughout the legal process, the emotional wellbeing of Ankita’s parents and family was a top priority. In response to the family’s requests, public prosecutors were changed three times, and when the parents called for a CBI investigation, Chief Minister Dhami complied with their demand.

Ankita Bhandari was allegedly murdered in 2022 at a resort in Uttarakhand, a case that has drawn significant public attention and outrage.
