Srinagar, August 1: In a tragic incident, two laborers from Chhattisgarh were shot dead by terrorists while working at a brick kiln in Kulgam on July 31. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with various leaders expressing their views. Sunil Sharma, the Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, visited the families of the victims and emphasized the urgent need for security forces to be vigilant once again.
Sharma stated, “The brutal murder of these two laborers in front of their families is heartbreaking. I visited the site, and it is deeply saddening. Such acts cannot be justified in any society; it is a murder of humanity. Unfortunately, these perpetrators label it as jihad.”
He questioned the rationale behind targeting innocent, unarmed laborers, calling it a form of jihad sponsored by elements from Pakistan that promote a Pakistani ideology. “Security forces need to awaken once more, and investigative agencies must become active to dismantle this ecosystem,” he asserted.
Sharma also mentioned that he had met with the affected families and provided them with comfort, facilitating communication with the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, who assured assistance. “A human life is invaluable, and there is no price for it. It is essential to support these families during this difficult time,” he added.
In response to the incident, former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah remarked that such events occur whenever there are demands for full statehood. Sharma challenged Abdullah’s comments, questioning how he could connect statehood with terrorism, which he described as a proxy war sponsored by Pakistan.
He criticized Abdullah for supporting terrorist elements and stated, “By making such statements, they defend these incidents, which is unfortunate for our state.”
When former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti raised questions regarding the incident, Sharma responded that such families undermine the morale of security forces and encourage those responsible for such acts. He insisted that the security forces should not be blamed, as the attack was sudden and unexpected.
