Central Employees to Receive 3% DA Hike

Mumbai, October 28: Central government employees and pensioners have received good news ahead of Diwali, as the government has approved a 3% increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR). This decision was confirmed during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. Following this increase, the DA for central employees will rise from the current 60% to 63% of their basic salary, effective from July 1, 2026.
The government has allocated ₹10,016 crores for this increase, which will benefit approximately 4.8 million central government employees and 6.8 million pensioners. The hike will directly impact the monthly salaries of employees, with pensioners also benefiting from the increased relief.
For instance, if an employee’s basic salary is ₹30,000, their DA will increase from ₹18,000 to ₹18,900, providing an additional ₹900 per month. The higher the basic salary, the greater the increase in DA.
The DA is an additional allowance provided to central government employees to mitigate the impact of inflation on their purchasing power. The government revises the DA and DR rates twice a year, in January and July, to address rising inflation.
This increase is expected to enhance the overall monthly salary of employees, while pensioners will also receive the benefits of the increased Dearness Relief.
