Mulethi Helps Ease Cough and Sore Throat in Winter

New Delhi, 19 November (Udaipur Kiran). With the winter season setting in, common problems like sore throat, persistent cough, phlegm and hoarse voice are affecting many people. Ayurveda recommends mulethi as a beneficial remedy to relieve these seasonal issues.

Mulethi

Mulethi, also known as Yashtimadhu, is rich in medicinal properties and is considered helpful in both dry and productive cough. The Ministry of AYUSH describes it as one of the most effective and safe home remedies for winter, often referred to as the “best friend of the throat and lungs” in Ayurveda.

Mulethi contains glycyrrhizin, which helps reduce throat inflammation, thins mucus for easy expulsion, and provides quick relief from cough. It also supports better digestion, helping prevent acidity, gas and constipation. Improved digestion further helps strengthen immunity and aids faster recovery from cold and cough.

Regular use of mulethi can soothe throat irritation, reduce hoarseness, and provide relief from dry or phlegmy cough. It is also known to be helpful in mouth ulcers and boosting overall immunity.

Mulethi can be consumed in simple ways, such as soaking a small stick in water overnight and chewing it the next morning before drinking the same water. Taking mulethi powder with honey can also help ease cough. Tea made with mulethi, ginger and tulsi is another beneficial option. Keeping a mulethi stick in the mouth and slowly chewing it may also provide relief.

Daily intake in small quantities can help protect against winter ailments like cold and cough. However, people with high blood pressure or allergies are advised to consult a doctor before using mulethi regularly.
