Mumbai, 25 July : Continuous heavy rainfall over the past two days has caused rivers in several districts of Maharashtra to swell, severely disrupting daily life. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai and a red alert for Raigad and Gondia districts for Friday, warning of heavy rainfall throughout the day.

Alerts Issued, Citizens Advised Caution
In view of the heavy rainfall forecast, authorities have urged residents to venture out only for essential work. Mumbai has been witnessing intense rainfall since early morning, especially in areas like Kandivali, Borivali, Malad, Andheri, Juinagar, Belapur, and Vashi. Waterlogging has been reported in several low-lying areas, causing difficulties for commuters. However, local train services and transport systems in Mumbai continue to operate normally.
In the Kalyan-Badlapur region, continuous rainfall since last night has raised the possibility of water accumulation on roads if the downpour continues.
High Tides Forecasted in Mumbai
According to the high tide schedule issued by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), high tides are expected in the Arabian Sea between 24 and 27 July. Today at 12:40 PM, waves are expected to rise up to 4.66 metres, and the highest tide is expected on 26 July, reaching 4.67 metres. Citizens have been advised to avoid visiting the seashore during this period.
Heavy Rains Across Vidarbha, Several Districts on Alert
The IMD has issued a full-day rainfall warning for the Vidarbha region. A red alert is in place for Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Bhandara, and Gondia districts, while Nagpur, Wardha, and Amravati districts are under orange alert. Continuous rainfall since last night in Gondia has led to overflowing rivers and drains. In Babai village of Goregaon tehsil, water flowing over a bridge has cut off connectivity between two villages.
Seven gates of the Dhapewara barrage on the Wainganga River have been opened, along with heavy water release from Pujaritola and Kalisarad dams.
Flooding Cuts Off Villages in Gadchiroli
In Gadchiroli district, heavy rainfall over the past two days has submerged the bridge over the Perl Kota River near Bhamragarh, cutting off access to over 100 villages in the tehsil. The tehsildar has declared a holiday in all schools of Mulchera tehsil. Due to Thursday’s heavy rainfall, 17 families from Alapalli had to be relocated to safer areas. The Wainganga River is flowing at dangerous levels, and authorities have warned people to stay alert as smaller rivers and streams are also in spate.
Situation Critical in Raigad and Malshej Ghat
Raigad district is on red alert, with rivers running high and the risk of flooding increasing. In Malshej Ghat, rain and dense fog have created serious conditions. The government has appealed to citizens across the state to remain vigilant and follow all administrative instructions as rainfall continues in various parts of Maharashtra.
