Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is set to undergo surgery for a thumb injury sustained during the team’s loss to the Buffalo Bills. Coach Jesse Minter confirmed that Jackson’s injury, which occurred on his first offensive play, could result in him being sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Minter stated, “That’ll be a surgery deal. He’ll go to (injured reserve).” Jackson’s injury follows a previous ankle issue that had already kept him out for three games earlier this season.

The injury happened when Jackson’s hand struck the arm of Bills pass rusher Greg Rousseau as he attempted a pass. He quickly left the field, pointed to his thumb, and was later seen on the sidelines with a splint. With Jackson out, Tyler Huntley took over but soon suffered a toe injury, leading to undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano making his NFL debut.

Fagnano’s performance against the Bills included 10 completions on 21 attempts for 91 yards but resulted in a loss for the Ravens, pushing their overall record to 4-4. The team is set to play the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night.

The Ravens are facing an uphill battle without their star quarterback. After Jackson’s previous absence, the team scored significantly fewer points and struggled offensively. Veteran tight end Mark Andrews expressed concern, stating, “Obviously, it’s a tough break and it’s sad, and a lot of unfortunate things went our way.” The status of Huntley remains uncertain as the team evaluates his injury.
