Buccaneers Defeat Falcons 16-0 in Historic Game
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers secured a 16-0 win over the Atlanta Falcons, making NFL history with no completed passes.
NEW YORK, Nov 2: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Atlanta Falcons 16-0 at home, marking a rare win achieved without any completed passes. This historic game took place amid heavy rain in Tampa.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield, returning from injury, did not connect on any of his three pass attempts. The Buccaneers are the first team to win a game with no completions since the 1974 Buffalo Bills. They also became the first team since 1945 to win by double digits without completing a pass, according to CBS Sports.
The Buccaneers dominated on the ground, accumulating 324 rushing yards. Bucky Irving was a standout performer, rushing for 170 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. Kenneth Gainwell contributed significantly as well, adding 140 yards from 25 carries. This marked the first instance in NFL history where two teammates each rushed for over 125 yards and had 25-plus carries in a single game.
Defensively, the Buccaneers forced Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. into a career-high four interceptions. Penix completed only eight of his 24 passes for 125 yards, a significant decline compared to his previous performances. He had previously thrown at least one touchdown in every game this season until Sunday.
With the loss, both Tampa Bay and Atlanta now share a 3-5 record in the NFC South. The division remains competitive, with the Carolina Panthers leading at 3-4 and the New Orleans Saints at the bottom with a 2-5 record.
