Udaipur : A woman and her husband were penalized of 51 thousand rupees as well as ostracised from community only for the reason that she claimed her share in the ancestral property held by her father. The woman said her sisters and father want to sell the property to someone else and hence she had to file a court case claiming her right.
The Khap panchayat at Dhanetkala village in Chittorgarh passed the diktat on June 10 imposing a fine of 51 thousand rupees on Bheri Bai and her husband Pappulal Suthar. The panchayat also ordered Bheribai to withdraw the case from court against her father and kin. However the woman was strong enough and mustered courage to file a police report against the panchayat itself.
Bheri bai told the media that she first gave a written complaint on June 11 about the Khap panchayat’s decision. The police warned the panchayat members to refrain from illegal interference in the family property dispute but instead of heeding to the police advice, the men went a step ahead and announced that whoever made any kind of social interaction with BheriBai and her family would also be boycotted.
On Thursday the woman and her husband again gave a plaint that the caste panchayat are pressuring her to withdraw her rights from the property. The case is being investigated by Sadar police station. ” We had once warned the caste panchayat members. If they are still found harassing the couple, strict action would be taken against them” SHO Navneet Vyas said.
