Bihar Farmers to Receive Crop Damage Compensation Before Durga Puja

Bihar government plans to disburse crop damage compensation to flood-affected farmers ahead of Durga Puja, ensuring timely relief.

Patna, October 3 (Udaipur Kiran) : The Bihar government has initiated plans to provide compensation for crop damage to farmers affected by flooding before the upcoming Durga Puja festival. Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha met with flood-affected farmers in Gopalganj on Saturday to assess the extent of the damage and instructed officials to expedite the evaluation process in the impacted areas.

Sinha emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by farmers in the state. Crop damage assessments have already been conducted in 18 districts, and the process of disbursing compensation based on the received reports is underway. The minister assured that funds would be transferred to the farmers’ accounts ahead of Durga Puja.

During his visit, Sinha also addressed the breach of embankments in the Sheetalpur area of Baikunthpur block and directed the district magistrate to conduct a thorough investigation. He warned that if any negligence by officials or staff is discovered, accountability would be enforced.

As relief efforts continue, the water levels in some rivers have begun to recede. However, several areas, including the Ganges and Gandak rivers, remain above the danger mark. On Saturday, the water level of the Ganges at Gandhi Ghat in Patna was recorded at 104 centimeters above the danger mark.

In Diaghaghat, water levels were 29 centimeters above, while in Hathidah, they were 92 centimeters above the danger mark. In Monghyr, the Ganges was 13 centimeters below the danger mark, while in Bhagalpur, it was five centimeters below. However, an increase is expected in Kahalgon and Sahibganj.

In Patna’s Maner, the Son River was 51 centimeters above the danger mark, and the Ghaghara River in Siwan’s Darouli and Gangpur Siswa was recorded at 86 and 26 centimeters above, respectively, with a decrease anticipated in the next 24 hours.
