Jadeja Completes 600 International Wickets, Harshit Rana Achieves Unique Feat in India’s Victory Over England

India registered a 4-wicket victory over England in the first ODI in Nagpur, with Ravindra Jadeja and Harshit Rana creating history with their outstanding performances. England, batting first, was bowled out for 248 runs in 47.4 overs, with Jadeja picking up 3 wickets to dismantle their batting lineup. In response, India comfortably chased down the target in 38.4 overs, losing six wickets along the way.

The match saw Jadeja reaching a historic milestone of 600 international wickets, making him only the second Indian to achieve 6000 runs and 600 wickets across all formats. Meanwhile, young pacer Harshit Rana set a unique record by becoming the first Indian cricketer to take three wickets on debut in all three formats—Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.

Jadeja’s remarkable achievement places him in an elite group of only six cricketers in history to have both 6000 international runs and 600 wickets, alongside legends like Kapil Dev, Daniel Vettori, Shakib Al Hasan, Wasim Akram, and Shaun Pollock. He is also just the third spinner, after Vettori and Shakib, to accomplish this feat, proving once again why he remains one of India’s greatest all-rounders.

Meanwhile, Harshit Rana’s sensational record across all formats has made him the talk of the cricketing world. He made his Test debut in December 2024 against Australia in Perth, where he picked up 3 wickets for 48 runs. In the fourth T20I against England, where he played as a concussion substitute, he again claimed 3 wickets for 33 runs. Now, in his ODI debut, he continued the streak by grabbing 3 wickets for 53 runs, cementing his place as an emerging bowling sensation.

Jadeja’s dominance over England continued as well, as he became the leading wicket-taker in India-England ODI series history, surpassing James Anderson’s tally of 40 wickets. With 41 wickets against England in ODIs, Jadeja now holds the record for most wickets in India-England series history since the teams began playing ODIs in 1974.

Adding to his personal rivalry, Jadeja dismissed Joe Root for the 12th time in international cricket, and for the fourth time in ODIs. Only Australia’s Pat Cummins has dismissed Root more times in international cricket (14 times in 31 innings), making Jadeja one of Root’s biggest nemeses on the field.

The match also had some other interesting statistics. England’s captain Jos Buttler finally registered his first ODI fifty against India, scoring 54 off 67 balls, despite playing 17 ODIs against India before this. However, England’s batting woes continued post the 2023 ODI World Cup. Since the tournament, they have played eight ODIs while batting first and have lost seven of them, indicating a persistent weakness in setting up strong totals.

On the Indian side, Rohit Sharma’s poor form in the 2024-25 season continues to be a concern. Having batted in 16 innings across formats this season, he has managed to score only 166 runs at a disappointing average of 10.37, failing to make an impact yet again.

With India leading the three-match ODI series 1-0, England will now be under pressure to make a strong comeback in the second ODI. As the series progresses, the spotlight will remain on Jadeja’s historic feats and Harshit Rana’s rapid rise as a dependable bowler.
