Iran Agrees to Temporarily Open Strait of Hormuz After Trumps Ceasefire Announcement

Tehran, April 8: A significant diplomatic development has emerged amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran. On Wednesday, Iran indicated its willingness to halt military actions, provided that attacks against it cease. Additionally, Iran announced a temporary opening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz for two weeks.

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, stated that this decision comes at a time when discussions regarding a ceasefire are ongoing and signs of easing tensions are apparent. He mentioned that during this two-week period, vessels will be allowed to transit safely through the Strait of Hormuz, but coordination with Iranian officials and adherence to specified conditions will be necessary.

Zarif explained that this step was taken following the U.S. request to negotiate a 15-point proposal and President Trump’s acceptance of Iran’s 10-point proposal as a basis for discussions. He clarified that Iran’s stance is entirely conditional and will depend on the actions of the other party.

He stated, “If attacks on Iran cease, our armed forces will also stop their defensive actions. Safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible for two weeks, but coordination with our forces and consideration of technical limitations will be essential.”

Meanwhile, Donald Trump made a significant announcement, stating that he has agreed to postpone proposed military strikes against Iran for two weeks. He remarked, “If Iran agrees to fully, immediately, and safely open the Strait of Hormuz, we will also halt attacks for two weeks.” Trump referred to this as a “mutual ceasefire.”

Trump also claimed that the U.S. military has achieved its objectives and is now rapidly working towards a long-term peace agreement. He noted that Iran’s 10-point proposal provides a strong basis for negotiations and that consensus has been reached on most contentious issues.

He expressed confidence that an agreement could be finalized within two weeks, calling it a significant step towards stability in the Middle East and an opportunity to resolve a long-standing issue.
