iPhone 16 Cases Surface Online, Hinting at Pill-Shaped Rear Camera Island

According to previous reports, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to arrive in the second half of 2024 with design changes. A leaked image showing two cases for the iPhone 16 model gives a good idea of what to expect from the successor to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. This year’s standard model is said to have a vertical pill-shaped design, replacing the square camera island of the iPhone 15 series and previous models with rounded edges.

Images of the two smartphone cases were leaked by Sony Dixon via X (formerly Twitter). The case on the left appears to be slightly larger, so could be for the iPhone 16 Plus, while the case on the right could be for the standard model. Both housings have a vertical bump for the rear camera and a plastic cutout for the LED flash right next to the camera island.

The new camera arrangement may be part of a new design that has undergone several changes in recent months, but MacRumors has confirmed that the upcoming smartphone will feature a vertical camera. It is mentioned that it might also come with a dual rear camera in the model. Apparently it’s not supported on the iPhone 15 because it has a diagonal camera layout.

This year, the Apple Action Button will be available on all four models of the iPhone 16 series, starting with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The leaked case also appears to have cutouts for the iPhone 16 model’s regular function button and the “Record” button supposedly coming later this year.

Another image recently shared by the same expert shows what is believed to be an iPhone 16 Pro model with what is believed to be the capture button on Apple’s next flagship. Meanwhile, color options for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have also been revealed, suggesting that the company’s premium smartphones could be available in four color options later this year.
