Apple has launched the new iPad Mini, featuring an 8.5-inch OLED display, upgraded A20 Pro chip, and enhanced audio features.

This updated model represents the first OLED screen for the iPad Mini series. The device weighs 255 grams and is only 5.4mm thick, making it thinner and lighter than its predecessor. It has slimmer bezels that provide a nearly edge-to-edge display, maintaining the compact form factor while offering a larger screen area.

The OLED display has a resolution of 2,316 x 1,512 pixels, with peak brightness reaching up to 1,200 nits. However, the iPad Mini does not include Apple’s ProMotion technology for higher refresh rates, operating at a maximum of 60Hz instead. Apple provides a nano-texture glass option for some models to reduce glare, aiming for improved viewing in various lighting conditions.

The A20 Pro chip enhances performance significantly, with a six-core CPU in the 512GB variant. The 128GB and 256GB versions have a binned processor with five cores. This new chip supports advanced AI capabilities and offers faster graphics performance compared to previous models.

Apple has incorporated an innovative “Acoustic Display” system, moving the speakers underneath the display. This setup improves audio quality with better bass and clarity, using custom tweeters placed between the device’s case layers.

The new iPad Mini features a 12MP front camera, now positioned on the landscape edge for better video calling angles, alongside a back camera capable of 4K video recording. The device is rated IP67 for water and dust resistance, making it more durable for outdoor use.

Pricing for the new iPad Mini starts at $699 for the 128GB model, with 256GB and 512GB options priced at $799 and $999, respectively. Pre-orders will begin on October 28, with availability set for November 6.
