Apple has unveiled a new iPad mini that features an OLED display and an upgraded A20 Pro chip, with pre-orders starting October 28.

CUPERTINO, Oct 26: Apple has launched a new iPad mini equipped with an OLED display and a powerful A20 Pro chip. The announcement, made on Monday, comes ahead of the company’s upcoming “Pro and Tell” event set for Wednesday.
The new tablet features an 8.5-inch OLED display with enhanced brightness, achieving peak levels of up to 1,200 nits, more than double that of its predecessor. It measures just 5.4 mm thick, making it thinner and lighter than the previous model.
Starting at $699 for the Wi-Fi version and $849 for the Wi-Fi and cellular model, the new iPad mini is also available in two colors. Users can choose a nano-texture display option that reduces glare in bright conditions.
Apple claims the upgraded A20 Pro chip significantly boosts performance, featuring a 6-core CPU that delivers up to 60% faster multithreaded performance and a 7-core GPU with Neural Accelerators, providing 4.5 times faster AI performance than before. According to Apple, it is ideal for gaming and graphics-intensive applications.
The updated tablet also includes a 12-megapixel front camera designed for video calls, faster wireless and cellular connectivity, and fast-charge support. The new “Acoustic Display” enhances audio quality for activities like gaming and watching videos.
Pre-orders for the iPad mini begin on October 28, with general availability set for November 6. Dave Pakula, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering, stated, “With a remarkably thinner and lighter design, a new OLED display, the incredibly powerful A20 Pro, and water and dust resistance, the new iPad mini is a huge leap forward for users who love having the full iPad experience in the palm of their hand.”
The device also features enhancements that make it suitable for dim-light environments, allowing a minimum brightness of 1 nit and supporting usage in various settings.
