New Delhi, November 8 (Udaipur Kiran): Australia is widely regarded as one of the strongest cricket teams in the world, known for their dominance across formats and conditions. However, when it comes to T20 cricket, Team India has emerged as their toughest rival in recent years.

Over the past four years, Australia has lost only four bilateral T20I series — and three of those defeats have come against India. The only other loss was against England.
In 2022, Australia lost a T20I series to India 1-2. The following year, England defeated them 2-0 at home, while later in 2023, Australia suffered another 1-4 defeat during their India tour. Most recently, in 2025, Australia once again lost a five-match T20I series to India 1-2 on home soil, with two matches washed out due to rain.
These results underline how India continues to be Australia’s biggest challenge in the shortest format. Even during the 2024 T20 World Cup, Australia failed to progress beyond the semifinals after losing a crucial group-stage match to India.
Historically too, India has maintained the upper hand over Australia in T20Is. Before the latest series, the two teams had faced off in 36 matches — India winning 22, while Australia managed 12 victories.
The 2025 India-Australia T20 series was seen as a key preparatory phase for the 2026 T20 World Cup, but frequent rain interruptions affected the contest. Despite that, India’s consistent dominance in the format continues to make them a formidable force against the Aussies.
