New Delhi, February 16: Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand met with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar during the Munich Security Conference in Germany. This marks their fifth meeting since September 2025, highlighting the ongoing progress in bilateral relations.
An official press release from the Canadian government stated, “Foreign Minister Anita Anand met with India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar at the Munich Security Conference in Germany.”
The statement further emphasized, “This is the fifth meeting between the ministers since September 2025, showcasing the growing momentum in Canada-India relations, which are built on over 75 years of diplomatic ties and strong people-to-people connections. The ministers discussed deepening cooperation in various sectors, including energy, technology, and trade.”
Highlighting India’s increasing global role, the Canadian government noted, “Minister Anand acknowledged India’s importance as a partner for Canada, being one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.” Both leaders confirmed the shared technological benefits and significant partnership opportunities for businesses, industries, and workers in both countries.
They also underscored the substantial progress made on the Joint Roadmap for Canada-India relations announced in October 2025, reiterating their commitment to strengthen ties by implementing the roadmap’s priorities and enhancing trade between Canada and India for economic resilience and stability.
The Canadian Foreign Ministry shared on its X handle, “Minister Anand was pleased to see her Indian counterpart Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar at #MSC2026 to discuss further work on advancing Canada-India relations and their shared interests.”
Dr. Jaishankar also expressed his thoughts on X, stating, “It was great to sit down and discuss with Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand. India-Canada relations are continually progressing.”
This high-level dialogue comes at a time when Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to visit India in the first week of March. Dinesh Patnaik, India’s High Commissioner to Canada, indicated that PM Carney may sign agreements related to uranium, energy, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence during this visit.
