Udaipur – Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat has proposed the interlinking of rivers originating from the Udaipur Lok Sabha constituency to promote integrated efforts in water conservation, forest enhancement, environmental balance, and rural livelihood development.

Raising the matter under Rule 377 in the Lok Sabha, Dr. Rawat stated that the Udaipur constituency is largely a hilly region, from where numerous small and large rivers flow toward the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. He suggested that by connecting these rivers, the region could achieve sustainable water conservation, improved irrigation, and permanent drinking water supply. He called for a well-planned water resource strategy to make this vision a reality.

Dr. Rawat further highlighted that the region is highly favourable from an ecological perspective, receiving over 90 centimetres of annual rainfall on average. He pointed out the vast potential for large-scale and systematic plantation of multipurpose trees such as mango, sapodilla (chikoo), gondi, and karonda on government and underutilised pasture and forest lands.

This, he said, would not only increase green cover and biodiversity in the region but also create employment and income opportunities for the local tribal communities through minor forest produce.

Dr. Rawat urged the government to formulate a special integrated plan for the Udaipur Lok Sabha constituency to promote water conservation, forest development, ecological balance, and rural livelihoods in a holistic manner.
