Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc Limited (NSE: HINDZINC), India’s largest and the world’s second-largest integrated zinc producer, successfully concluded a 3-day Intra-Zonal Mine Rescue Competition at its Rajpura Dariba Complex. The event, organized under the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), Northwest Zone, aimed to enhance safety best practices while providing a platform for knowledge sharing among mining companies.

The competition, which focused on real-life emergency preparedness, saw enthusiastic participation from 10 teams. Teams from Hindustan Copper’s Khetri & Kolihan operations and Hindustan Zinc’s men’s and women’s mine rescue teams competed in a series of challenging rescue drills and tests that adhered to stringent safety protocols. The competition was designed to equip teams with essential skills to handle emergencies, thereby enhancing collaboration and building a resilient mining community.

Hindustan Zinc’s Rampura Agucha men’s team took the top spot, with the Sindesar Khurd men’s team finishing as runners-up. The competition featured separate categories for men’s and women’s teams, with activities including Fresh Air Base drills, underground Rescue & Recovery operations, theoretical assessments, First Aid, and statutory exams. These tasks tested participants’ physical endurance and mental readiness to manage critical situations.

The closing ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Shri R.T. Mandekar, Deputy Director of DGMS, Northwest Zone, alongside Hindustan Zinc’s CEO, Shri Arun Misra. Shri Mandekar commended the participants for their dedication and urged Hindustan Zinc to establish a dedicated mine rescue station at its operational units—a suggestion welcomed by the company’s leadership. He noted, “The mine rescue competition hosted by Hindustan Zinc demonstrated the exceptional skills and commitment of the mining industry’s first responders. The participation of women’s teams is a remarkable step towards gender equality in the mining sector, a trend started by Hindustan Zinc.”

Hindustan Zinc CEO, Shri Arun Misra, reiterated the company’s commitment to safety, saying, “At Hindustan Zinc, safety is our top priority. Our operations are equipped with best-in-class safety technologies, reminding us to always prioritize safety in the workplace. I’m proud of both our teams for their outstanding performances. This event is not just about winning; it’s about understanding emergency preparedness and following strict safety protocols.”

The competition received praise from industry experts, underlining Hindustan Zinc’s leadership in safety and empowerment within the mining industry. The company has consistently worked to enhance the safety environment, including establishing India’s first underground first-aid station with an ambulance, and the country’s first all-women mine rescue team. Hindustan Zinc’s all-women team recently secured 2nd place in the women’s taskforce category at the XIII International Mine Rescue Competition in Colombia.

Hindustan Zinc remains committed to promoting safety and gender inclusivity, ensuring a brighter, safer, and more equitable future for the mining industry.
