Bhopal, July 20 – Madhya Pradesh will witness a short break from intense monsoon activity, with no heavy rain alerts for the next three days. Due to a weakening weather system, the state is expected to experience light drizzle during this period. According to the Meteorological Department, clear skies are likely over most districts on Sunday. However, heavy rains are forecast to return from July 23.
So far, Madhya Pradesh has recorded an average rainfall of 20.5 inches this monsoon season. Districts like Niwari and Tikamgarh have already received their seasonal average quota. Many other districts have recorded over 80% of their normal rainfall.
Weather scientist Arun Sharma stated that there is no alert for heavy rainfall anywhere in the state over the next 24 hours. Similar weather is expected on July 21 and 22. From July 23, heavy rains are likely to begin in some eastern districts. Although a monsoon trough and depression are currently active, they are situated far from Madhya Pradesh. Rains will pick up only when western disturbances become active in the region.
Due to the ongoing trough and depression, moderate to heavy rain continued across the state on Saturday. However, by Sunday, most areas saw a clear sky. Only Sheopur recorded light rain by afternoon.
As the rain paused, temperatures rose across the state. Khajuraho recorded a day temperature of 35.6°C, Sidhi 34.6°C, Satna 33.9°C, Mandla 33.5°C, and Datia, Raisen, and Narmadapuram reached 33.4°C.
At night, light rain accompanied by lightning was reported in Balaghat, Anuppur, Shahdol, Rajgarh, Chhindwara, Seoni, Pandhurna, Dindori, Mandla, Umaria, Sidhi, Singrauli, Rewa, Mauganj, Betul, Maihar, Jabalpur, and Katni.
