Google Home Camera History Gains Double-Tap Quick Seek for Faster Navigation

Google is enhancing the Google Home app by introducing a double-tap quick seek feature for camera history playback, a long-awaited improvement that aligns with standard video player controls. Currently rolling out to Public Preview users, this update aims to streamline navigation through recorded footage.

Enhanced Camera History Navigation

Previously, in Google Home’s camera history view, a double-tap action would zoom into the video, while tapping again would zoom out. To move through a clip, users had to long-press and manually slide the scrubber, which often proved cumbersome.

With this update, Google is now implementing a 10-second quick seek function, making it easier and more efficient to browse through recorded video history.

How the New Quick Seek Feature Works:

Double-tap on the right side of the playback window to jump forward 10 seconds.
Double-tap on the left side of the playback window to rewind 10 seconds.
Pinch-to-zoom functionality is expected to remain available.

This intuitive gesture-based control mirrors the functionality of popular video players and enhances ease of use for Google Home users reviewing security footage.

Availability and Rollout

The double-tap quick seek feature is first being introduced through Google’s Public Preview program, allowing early access to select users. However, as of now, it has not yet appeared on Android or iOS devices in the initial rollout phase.

While no official timeline has been provided for a full release, this simple yet impactful update is expected to roll out more broadly in the coming weeks, improving the overall Google Home camera experience.
