Udaipur, January 3 – In a tragic road accident on the Gogunda-Pindwara National Highway in Rajasthan’s Udaipur district, five people lost their lives, and nine others sustained injuries after a speeding trailer rammed into a tempo on Friday afternoon around 12:30 PM. The mishap occurred when the trailer reportedly lost control due to brake failure and collided with the tempo from behind.

Collision Leaves Trail of Devastation
The accident took place near Malwa Ka Choura bridge, where a tempo, ferrying passengers from Saleria village, had just entered the highway en route to Devla. The high-speed trailer, approaching from behind, violently struck the tempo, causing the passengers to be thrown out of the vehicle upon impact. Eyewitnesses described the collision as extremely severe, with the tempo completely crushed under the trailer’s force.
Following the accident, chaos ensued at the scene as locals rushed to help the injured. Four women and a 13-year-old boy were among the deceased. According to eyewitness reports, the trailer driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.
Eight Severely Injured Referred to Udaipur
Out of the nine injured, eight were reported to be in critical condition and were promptly referred to a hospital in Udaipur for advanced treatment. Bhagwat Singh Jhala, the Highway Patrolling Officer, stated that a total of 14 passengers were traveling in the tempo at the time of the incident. Emergency services, including the police and ambulances, arrived swiftly, and the injured were rushed to nearby medical facilities. Tragically, four victims were declared dead on the spot, while the fifth succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.

The accident caused a significant traffic disruption on the highway, with bodies lying on the road for hours, creating a distressing scene for commuters. Local residents expressed deep grief over the incident and voiced concerns about inadequate safety measures on the highway. They demanded immediate action from authorities to improve road safety and prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
