New Delhi, September 4 (Kiran News). St Lucia Kings booked their place in the CPL 2025 playoffs after a commanding seven-wicket win over Trinbago Knight Riders in Trinidad on Wednesday night (Thursday IST). The Kings wrapped up the chase with 53 balls to spare, becoming the second team after TKR to qualify for the playoffs.

The Kings’ spinners played a decisive role in the victory. Tabraiz Shamsi starred with figures of 3 for 12, while Khary Pierre and Roston Chase picked up two wickets each to dismantle the Knight Riders’ batting order.
Opting to bat first, TKR got off to a disastrous start. Colin Munro fell on the second ball of the innings to Pierre, while Darren Bravo’s brief cameo ended quickly. Nicholas Pooran survived some close calls early on and struck two sixes, but the collapse continued. Alex Hales departed off the final ball of the powerplay, leaving TKR reeling at three down.
Shamsi’s entry accelerated the downfall. He dismissed Akeal Hosein with his first delivery, removed Pooran soon after, and bowled Andre Russell to leave TKR in deep trouble. Captain Kieron Pollard also became one of his victims. Despite late resistance from Terrance Hinds and Nathan Edwards, TKR were bowled out for just 109 in 18.1 overs.
In reply, Tim Seifert gave the Kings a flying start, smashing 14 runs in the opening over. Though Johnson Charles departed early, Seifert (36) and Ackeem Auguste (28) added valuable runs. Auguste, in particular, took on Russell, hitting 20 runs off one over. Once the openers fell, Roston Chase and David Wiese guided the Kings home with ease, finishing at 112 for 3 in just 11.1 overs.
Brief Scorecard:
-
Trinbago Knight Riders – 109/10 (18.1 overs)
(Nicholas Pooran 30, Nathan Edwards 17; Tabraiz Shamsi 3/12, Roston Chase 2/19) -

(Tim Seifert 36, Ackeem Auguste 28; Sunil Narine 2/28, Usman Tariq 1/26)
Result: St Lucia Kings won by 7 wickets.
