Rohit Sharma Shouldnt Be Just an Impact Player: Kaif

New Delhi, March 26: Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif believes that the Mumbai Indians (MI) should utilize Rohit Sharma not just as an ‘impact player’ but keep him on the field for the entire T20 match in IPL 2026.

Rohit Sharma is the leading run-scorer for Mumbai Indians in IPL history, amassing 7,046 runs at an average of 29.73 over 272 matches, including 2 centuries and 47 half-centuries.

Despite his impressive record, he was often used as an ‘impact player’ last season. Kaif disagrees with this decision, stating that Hardik Pandya needed Rohit’s support, especially during the second qualifier against Punjab Kings, which MI lost after a stellar innings from Shreyas Iyer.

On Thursday, Kaif tweeted that MI should fully utilize a fit Rohit. He emphasized the need for the five-time IPL-winning captain in challenging situations, as his presence would also benefit captain Hardik Pandya.

Kaif wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “Mumbai Indians should make full use of a fitter and learning Rohit Sharma. He cannot just be an impact player. MI will need him in tough situations, and his suggestions will be invaluable to captain Hardik Pandya. Last year in Qualifier 2 against Kings XI, Hardik needed Rohit by his side when Shreyas Iyer was batting brilliantly. Being fully involved in the game will also benefit batsman Rohit.”

Rohit’s performance last season was underwhelming, scoring only 240 runs, and the opener will be looking to regain his form in the upcoming season.
