Shimla, Feb 24 : A bone chilling cold wave has gripped Himachal Pradesh as the higher reaches received snowfall while other areas were lashed by light to moderate rains and thundershowers, officials said on Thursday. The Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) warned of avalanches in Lahaul Spiti, Kullu and Kinnuar districts which it said could disrupt vehicular traffic and endanger human life. The high reaches of Lahaul Spiti, Kinnuar, Kullu got a light spell of snowfall on Wednesday night. SASE issued the warning to people cautioning them to not move out in the avalanche-prone areas. Meanwhile, vehicular traffic was being restored on the Manali-Attal tunnel-Keylong NH-3, which was hit by an avalanche on Wednesday. Lahaul Spiti Deputy Commissioner Neerj Kumar said the snowfall had closed all roads and snow was still falling on Thursday. The weather is likely to be bad in the next two to three days as well, experts said. Gondola in Lahaul Spiti had 10 cm of snow. Manali was the wettest place, recording 23 mm rainfall. Chamba and Dalhousie had 15 mm of rain, Mandi 2.6 mm and Kangra 1.5 mm. The maximum temperature has plummeted in the state. Fresh snowfall disrupted as many as 247 link and four national and state highways besides disrupting water and power supply in many places. Keylong (Lahaul-Spiti) was the coldest in the state at minus 4 degrees Celsius, Kufri (Shimla) 2.6, Manali (Kullu) 3, Shimla 5.6, Dalhousie (Chamba) 2.3, Solan 6.2, Dharmshala 8.2 and Mandi 9.6.
