New Delhi, May 13: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the results for the Class 12 board examinations. This year, the overall pass percentage for students across the country stands at 85.20%, which is a decrease of 3.19% compared to last year’s figure of 88.39%.
For the first time, CBSE has implemented a fully digital ‘on-screen marking’ system for evaluating students’ answer sheets. According to the board, this is the largest digital evaluation campaign to date, with 9,866,622 answer sheets assessed digitally. In 2026, a total of 1,780,365 students registered for the Class 12 examinations, out of which 1,768,968 appeared for the exams, and 1,507,109 students were declared successful.
The results indicate that girls have once again outperformed boys, with a pass percentage of 88.86% compared to 82.13% for boys, marking a difference of 6.73%. Transgender students maintained a 100% pass rate. The Class 12 examinations were conducted from February 17 to April 10, 2026, across 19,967 schools and 7,573 examination centers, an increase from 19,299 schools and 7,330 centers in 2025.
In the Delhi region, students performed better than the national average, with the West Delhi region achieving a pass percentage of 92.34% and East Delhi recording 91.73%. The overall pass percentage for the Delhi region is 91.97%, with 301,977 students registered for the Class 12 board examinations. Out of these, 373,732 appeared for the exams, and 276,583 students passed.
The CBSE has made significant changes to the evaluation process for the 2026 Class 12 board examinations by fully implementing the ‘on-screen marking’ system. This initiative is seen as a crucial step towards enhancing transparency, fairness, and technology-based examination reforms in line with the National Education Policy. Under this system, answer sheets are delivered digitally to evaluators, eliminating the need for physical transport.
This new arrangement has made the evaluation process more accurate and error-free, reducing human errors in score calculation, entry, and uploading. The board emphasized that each answer is now evaluated according to the prescribed marking scheme, ensuring fairness and objectivity in the assessment process. Evaluators are now focusing more on the quality of responses rather than administrative tasks, thus saving time and effort.
