Bundi Police Crack Down on Wildlife Crime, Two Held for Brutal Nilgai Hunting

Jaipur, October 26 (Udaipur Kiran): In a swift operation, Bundi police have detained two key accused involved in the brutal killing of nilgais (blue bulls) in the Karwar police station area, following widespread outrage and protests by local villagers.

Superintendent of Police Rajendra Kumar Meena said the incidents took place in the fields of Kalmia and Jarkhoda villages on the nights of October 18 and 22. The poachers allegedly opened indiscriminate fire, killing multiple nilgais. During inspection, carcass remains — including heads and legs — were found at four different spots in each village, confirming that the animals had been shot at close range.

Following these gruesome incidents, cases were registered under various sections of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, at the Indergarh and Nainwa forest ranges.

Considering the gravity of the crime and the growing public anger, SP Meena directed immediate action. Under the supervision of Additional SP Uma Sharma and Circle Officer (Nainwa) Raju Lal Meena, the Karwar police team, led by SHO Rajendra Singh, conducted a detailed investigation at the crime scenes.

Based on technical evidence, police detained two suspects on Sunday.

Mobile Video Becomes Key Evidence:
During the probe, police recovered mobile phones from the detained suspects containing videos showing the accused chasing and shooting nilgais — a crucial piece of evidence linking them directly to the crime.

DCRB Cell in-charge Tikam Chand Rathore played a key role in identifying the accused and assisting in the case breakthrough.

Police are now searching for the black Thar vehicle and another old jeep used in the incident, along with the weapons employed during the hunt. The detained suspects will be handed over to the Forest Department for further legal action, as they are wanted in wildlife protection cases.
