Bullish Comeback: Sensex and Nifty Close Higher as Investors Gain ₹2.98 Lakh Crore

New Delhi, October 27 (Udaipur Kiran): Domestic stock markets opened the week on a strong note, with both Sensex and Nifty ending Monday’s session in the green. After a positive opening, heavy buying across key sectors lifted market sentiment, helping benchmark indices sustain their gains despite some profit booking in the later half of the day.

By the end of trade, the Sensex rose 0.67% while the Nifty closed 0.66% higher, supported by strong global cues and renewed foreign investor participation.

Analysts said the rally was driven by firm global signals, optimism over possible US Federal Reserve rate cuts, and robust foreign institutional investment (FII) inflows. With inflation showing signs of easing in the US, expectations are high that the Federal Reserve could announce a rate cut in its upcoming meeting, encouraging global investors to increase exposure in emerging markets like India.

Sector-wise, PSU banks, realty, and oil & gas stocks saw consistent buying throughout the day. Other indices — including auto, metal, IT, capital goods, FMCG, and tech — also ended on a positive note, while healthcare stocks witnessed mild selling pressure.

In the broader market, BSE Midcap gained 0.72% and Smallcap rose 0.51%. Overall market capitalization of BSE-listed companies jumped to ₹471.90 lakh crore, up from ₹468.92 lakh crore on Friday — adding nearly ₹2.98 lakh crore to investors’ wealth in a single session.

On the trading front, 4,502 stocks were active on the BSE; 2,178 advanced, 2,113 declined, and 211 remained unchanged. On the NSE, 1,436 stocks closed higher while 1,429 ended lower. Among Sensex constituents, 22 stocks gained, while 8 closed in red.

The Sensex opened 85.51 points higher at 84,297.39, touched an intraday high of 84,932.08, and settled at 84,778.84, up 566.96 points. Similarly, the Nifty opened at 25,843.20, hit a day’s high of 26,005.95, and ended 170.90 points higher at 25,966.05.

Top gainers included SBI Life Insurance (up 3.44%), Grasim Industries (2.91%), Bharti Airtel (2.50%), Reliance Industries (2.24%), and Eternal (2.17%). Major losers were Kotak Mahindra Bank (down 1.76%), Bharat Electronics (1.63%), Infosys (1.37%), ONGC (0.66%), and Adani Ports (0.59%).
