Lucknow, November 11 (Udaipur Kiran): In a joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has detained Dr. Parvez Ansari, the brother of terror suspect Dr. Shaheen, for alleged links to extremist activities. The ATS carried out raids across Lucknow, Saharanpur, and Shamli before taking him into custody for questioning.
According to officials, Dr. Parvez had been working as a Senior Resident at Integral University, Lucknow, since 2021. He abruptly resigned from his position on November 6, days before the ATS raided his residence in Muttakipur, Madiyaon. During the search, the team recovered electronic devices, vehicles, and several important documents, all of which were seized for investigation.
Sources said Dr. Parvez maintained regular contact with his sister Dr. Shaheen, who was earlier arrested from Faridabad for her alleged links to terror organisations. Investigators have revealed that the two were in frequent communication, with long conversations reported between them until 48 hours before Parvez switched off his phone.
ATS Questions Dr. Shaheen’s Father
Following Dr. Shaheen’s arrest, ATS and Jammu and Kashmir Police also raided her family home in Lal Bagh, Lucknow, and questioned her father, Saeed Ansari. He told officials that his daughter had not been in touch with the family for over a year and a half and that he was shocked to learn about her alleged involvement in terror activities.
Dr. Shaheen, a medical graduate from Prayagraj, previously worked as an Assistant Professor at Kanpur’s GSVM Medical College before abruptly leaving the job in 2013. She was formally removed from the post in 2021 for long-term absence. She was married to Jafar Hayat from Maharashtra, but the two had been living separately for about 15 years. After their separation, Shaheen moved to Faridabad, where she reportedly became active in radical networks.
Links to Jaish-e-Mohammed
Investigations have revealed that Dr. Shaheen was in contact with the Pakistan-based terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and was allegedly tasked with building a women’s network for its wing, Jamaat-ul-Momineen. She had reportedly used her association with Al-Falah University to influence and recruit educated individuals.
Further probes suggest that Shaheen had a personal relationship with terrorist Mujammil, who was arrested by Jammu and Kashmir Police earlier. The car recovered from Mujammil’s possession — containing an AK-47 rifle and ammunition — was registered in Shaheen’s name. Both the ATS and Jammu and Kashmir Police are continuing to interrogate her to uncover the full extent of the network.
