Political Tensions Rise After Delhi Minister Slaps AAP Worker

New Delhi, September 27 (Udaipur Kiran) : The political landscape in New Delhi has become increasingly charged following an incident where Delhi Minister Pravesh Verma allegedly slapped a member of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The incident, which occurred during a dispute over the quality of road construction in the Dwarka area, has led AAP leaders to demand a First Information Report (FIR) against Verma.

AAP leaders claimed that when they approached police officials to file the FIR, they were detained and mistreated. Verma, however, expressed regret over the incident but accused AAP supporters of obstructing government work and making derogatory comments about his family.

AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar criticized the police’s actions on social media, alleging that officers assaulted protesters who were demanding action against Verma. He reiterated the call for an FIR to be registered against the minister.

Saurabh Bhardwaj, another AAP leader, pointed out that despite the incident being captured on video and occurring in the presence of police, no FIR had yet been filed against Verma. He questioned the delay, emphasizing the need for accountability in the matter.

The AAP’s official social media account also reacted to the incident, accusing Verma of slapping the young man for raising concerns about corruption and the quality of road construction. Following the incident, Bhardwaj and other party workers were reportedly taken into custody by the Delhi police.

The party has also alleged that police behaved inappropriately towards female workers during the protests. The Delhi police have yet to respond to these allegations.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh launched a sharp attack on the BJP government, stating that during the decade-long rule of AAP in Delhi, ministers were accessible to the public and worked to address their issues. He condemned the physical altercation that occurred after the young man raised concerns about road construction quality, suggesting that the minister should have directed officials to investigate the matter instead.

Singh also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s messages regarding conduct and language in public life, questioning the BJP leadership and suggesting that such lessons should be imparted to their ministers first.

In response to the escalating controversy, Verma took to social media to express his regret over the incident. He emphasized the need to understand the circumstances surrounding the event but acknowledged that the altercation should not have happened. Verma claimed that AAP-affiliated individuals were deliberately damaging the road construction project and spreading misinformation about its quality. He also mentioned that the contractor had lodged a complaint with the police regarding alleged bribery.

According to Verma, the Public Works Department (PWD) will conduct a quality audit and investigation into the road construction issues raised. He asserted that any attempts to obstruct government work or exert undue pressure on officials and contractors would not be tolerated.
