Arrah, June 24: The alleged encounter of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari in the Shahpur police station area of Bhojpur district, Bihar, has ignited public outrage. In response, a massive mahapanchayat and tribute meeting was held at a local temple on Wednesday, drawing a large crowd. Attendees raised slogans in support of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari and demanded a fair investigation and action against the guilty.
Several speakers at the gathering questioned the role of the state government and administration. Prashant Kishor, the architect of Jan Suraj, stated that if justice is not served for Bharat Tiwari, the movement will be escalated. Kishor visited Bilauti village from Patna and met with Tiwari’s family. He emphasized that no police officer can fire without orders from above, raising concerns about who authorized the police action in this case and calling for an investigation.
Kishor also demanded that the judicial inquiry should include not just local police officials but also the Home Department, DGP, and all responsible officers involved in the case. He asserted that merely suspending the concerned officer and DSP does not equate to justice; the public must visibly see justice being served. He issued a 15-day ultimatum to the government to formally announce a judicial inquiry, warning that if no concrete action is taken within this timeframe, protestors will march to Patna and surround the government.
Speakers declared that the struggle for justice for Bharat Bhushan Tiwari and his family will continue, and if necessary, they will also surround Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary’s residence. Posters declaring Bharat Tiwari as a ‘martyr’ and demanding justice have been put up from Bilauti village to the main road and highway. Supporters argue that the government should respond to the issues Tiwari was advocating for.
Representatives from Brahmin community organizations from Uttar Pradesh, along with attendees from Bhojpur and surrounding districts, were also present at the mahapanchayat. Notably, there has been an atmosphere of tension and anger in the area regarding the alleged encounter, and the political implications of this case are expected to intensify in the coming days.
